How To Deal With Criticism

Topic: **DEALING WITH CRITICISM* .
I Recently witness a pathetic leadership blunder. where a suppose leader was engage in a fight with a person that was criticising him and with the various victimisation of people across the country for criticising people in power, it was obvious to me that many leaders have a lot of deficits in basic leadership skils. As unfair as this may sound one of the pain in leadership is criticism, you seem never to escape it as a leader, no matter how good you are, people will still criticize you. It can either be constructive or destructive but you can't escape me if you are leader.
To be a leader is to be frontier, and you cannot be a frontliner without being stoned at or without suffering one criticism or the other. So to be a leader and you don't want to be criticised is having an unrealistic expectation, as a ripe fruit you should naturally expect stones to be thrown at you, every successful leader knows that no matter how good you are someone will always find something unhappy to say about you. Sometimes when people criticize me I wonder if they are paid to do it. Have you ever felt that way too? Well, that's the world we are . We all bound to be criticized as long as we take the lead.
Elections are coming soon and all manner of criticism will be lashed out to a whole lot of people, one political party criticising the other, one political leader criticising the other a whole lot of things, religious institutions doing same and a whole lot of things. But knowing how to handle criticism is one skill that every leader should be equipped with or else you are bound a leadership failure.
The Bible tells us a story in 1 samuel 30 about David going to war with his warriors and when the got back from war. The discovered that the city has burnt, their wives and children taken .they all wept at the incidence that has overtaken them however it wasn't long when they started lashing it out on David and At some point they wanted to stone him, my question is, didn’t David go to war with them? Didn’t David suffer the same predicament like theý? Was David’s wives and children not taken too,was his house not burnt also? Why was he e suffering this criticism? Why was he under fire, why the attempt to stone him? Well the "WHY" is because he is the leader and Leaders suffer from the vent of the people when they feel unhappy. The truth is whenever people feel unhappy they express it through criticism
It has been observed that many leaders can’t handle criticism, the moment they are criticised, they want to fight back, they want to attack, they want to victimize, mostly people in power, when someone in power feels criticized and it’s not healthy enough whenever he is criticized he will want to victimize the other person, he will want to victimize the person that criticized him because he thinks he has the power. What I am saying is that, when we feel criticized most times we go all crazy, it is Aristotle that said criticism is something you can avoid easily by saying nothing, doing nothing and being not
So let’s quickly look at how can I handle Criticism
1. *Discover self* ;
it was Benjamin Franklin that said, there are three things that are extremely hard, Steel, Diamond and to know one’s self. That being said Knowing one’s self cannot be over emphasized, knowing oneself is the first step to handling criticism, knowing your strength, knowing your weakness, the consequences of your decisions etc. if you know this whenever someone says anything foror against you, you will know where to channel it. For example, if you know you are impatient and it’s a weakness to you . whenever you are criticized in that area you know how to channel and how to react to such criticism. By the way most criticism are not targeted at your person but at your position occupy, so you must be intelligent enough to know where to draw the line from the person and the position. People who know who they are don't allow criticism distract them.
