No matter how you want to put it, there is no justifiable reason to rape anyone.
Her dressed is too short and revealing, what about the ladies in the north that are well covered and yet are raped daily?
She's was not in a safe Area ,what about the girl raped and killed In church?
What was she doing in his house? What about the children raped at home?
Society has a way of blaming the victim when it comes to this issue of rape,we make excuses for sick people, for you to have an erection and go forward to force someone against their will it's a big sign that you have a big problem. THE RAPIST IS THE PROBLEM NOT THE RAPED.
RAPE IN NIGERIA
Rape in Nigeria is not new problem it has been in existence longer than we know and it's roots buried deep in our culture, traditions and Even religion, we now hearing a little about it because of the presence of social media and the boldness of few victims that speak out.
Our society shames anyone who come out to speak about it,so alot of victims rather keep the secret and suffer it for a life time. For the rapist is just a five minutes act but for the victim is a life time.
We have heard of instances when even mothers prevent their children from coming forward to speak out , in fact our culture, tradition even religion permit this Kind of wickedness.
We still have cultures, tradition and religions in this nation that marry out children, what is worst than that? Our culture allow men to play the dominant being having no respect for the female race, our tradition teaches men that they are entitled to For sex from a woman for showing her kind gesture, our religion brain washes the men that the female child is inferior to the man and she can be used. I don't want to talk about our government and law enforcement agencies.
We have laws against sexual assault that are barely enforcable, the law enforcement agencies trivalices the issues and most of the time shamifies the victim, most of our government officials and law makers have minors as wife at home.
When few that are bold enough to speak out come forward , our society scream and shut them down, we make them feel worst than they already are. I believe no rapist should walk on our street but the question is, do know how many rapist our society, culture and traditions have produced?
Do you know that according to statistic one in every three girls would have experienced at least one form of sexual assault by the time they reach 25 years. According to the statistic, offenders were mostly strangers (38 percent), while neighbours (24 percent), acquaintance of the victims (18 percent) and relatives (16 percent) accounted for the other categories of offenders. Further probing revealed that most of the rape incidence happened either at the victim’s residence (36 percent) or at the offender’s residence (24 percent).
For some of you parents and brothers that have girls just maybe your child or sister has been assaulted according to this findings but she is afraid to speak out.
Let me daze you more ,do also know that about 3 in 10 Nigerians (26 percent) have been raped in the past and the rape victims were particularly minors and young adults aged between 1 – 15 years (72 percent) and 16 – 25 years (24 percent) respectively.
With this outrageous figures who are we to blame really ,parents? Government? Religious Or traditional Leaders? The rapist? Who? The truth is we are all responsible for this illness in our communities,
We thank God for the invent of social media, according to the U.N. children’s fund and Health experts more children and young women are coming forward to talk about the problem as the stigma attached to discussing it slowly subsides.
Let's empower people to come forward and speak out so they can find healing rather than shut them down.
